Common U.S. salon tipping guidance
The Emily Post Institute lists 15% to 20% for hair salon service and notes that a tip can be divided among the people who served you. That range is guidance rather than a mandatory fee, and the amount you choose can depend on the service and your own preferences.
This calculator includes 15%, 18%, 20%, and 25% as quick comparison points. You can type any custom percentage instead.

For a $120 salon service:

What if several people worked on the appointment?
A salon visit can involve more than one professional, such as a stylist, colorist, assistant, or shampoo specialist. The percentage calculator gives you the total voluntary tip amount first.
If you want to divide that amount between multiple people, decide how you want to allocate it based on the services performed. The current salon calculator does not assume that every provider should receive an equal share, because appointments can vary significantly.
Discounts and promotional pricing
When a service is discounted, customers sometimes wonder whether to calculate from the amount actually paid or from the regular service value. There is no need for the tool to force one approach.
Enter whichever service price you want to use as the base. The displayed tip is simply that amount multiplied by your chosen percentage.
For example, if a service normally costs $150 but a promotion reduces the checkout price to $120, entering $120 calculates the percentage from the discounted amount. Entering $150 calculates it from the regular value.
Barber services
The same math works for a barber appointment. Enter the service price and choose the percentage you want to leave. The page intentionally avoids adding restaurant-specific fields such as sales-tax tip basis or group bill splitting because those controls are usually unnecessary for salon and barber intent.
Cash and card tips
Whether the business accepts tips by cash, card, payment link, or another method does not change the percentage calculation. Use the calculator to determine the amount, then follow the payment options available at the salon.
