Editorial Policy
Calculator formulas are maintained as testable code. Before a formula change is published, we check representative values, zero values, rounding boundaries, multi-person splits, and currency precision so displayed parts reconcile to the total.
For factual guidance, we prefer primary or official sources first: tax authorities for tax treatment, tourism or government sources for local customs, and established etiquette references when no official rule exists. Commercial calculator pages are not treated as authority for cultural or legal claims.
Each published guide and calculator support page displays its page-level sources and a Last Verified date. That date is updated for substantive factual review, not for cosmetic changes.
When sources disagree, we give more weight to current primary or official material, then established institutional references, and use commercial or secondary commentary only as supplementary context.
Market defaults are reviewed against the source set for that locale. A default percentage, tax assumption, service-charge treatment, or preset changes only when the underlying market evidence or product requirement materially changes; we do not change defaults merely to match a competitor.
Localization review covers more than translation. We check currency, number formatting, local tipping expectations, service-fee language, examples, and internal links so a localized page does not silently inherit U.S. assumptions.
The Tip Calculator Editorial Team is responsible for formula review, source selection, localization checks, and corrections. Send correction requests to contact@tipcalculator.tools; material corrections trigger a new factual review and an updated Last Verified date.
